The door code has the letter F I'm not sure on the four speed or five speed because the shifter is missing the *** and its screwed up so it is useless I guess I'll find out when I go to fix the shifter.
its an m5od. It stands for mazda 5 speed overdrive
there are two version of the m5od as well. the r1 which came in the explorers and rangers, and the r2 which was the light duty truck tranny. I dont think it was ever offered in a 250 though.
I thought they stopped using the np435 before 87 but i dont know when the t19 stopped. I also dont know if they put a zf behind a 4.9l. I have seen 4.9l 4speed 250s but never crawled under them to see what tranny they had.
snap a quick picture of it and we can tell right away.

I have seen multiple light duty F250's with a 300 and 302's that had the mazda 5spds in them.
You could get a ZF 5spd with the 300.
Nope, I have personally owned a 87 F250 that had a 302 with a NP435. And I had a 91 F250 with a 300 and a NP435. Neither appeared to be swapped in. I've also had a 91 that had a T18.

Not with a door code of "F" it isn't.

The M5OD-R2 was offered in the light-duty F-250. Since this truck is a 4.9L, it *could* be a light duty and the M5OD was intro'd in 1988.... so if it weren't for the door code, it's possible.

From what I have read, the NP435 was last used in '86. The T-18 was available in the F-150 up until 93 so I suppose the T-19 was around into the '90's as well although I've never read anything definitive on that.

They were both used. It depends on the GVWR. Greater than 8600# trucks got the ZF.

This is true.

Also true.

It wouldn't be the first time Ford made an oddball truck out of leftover parts that were "supposed" to be discontinued. With Ford, anything is really possible.
But you will look long and hard to find another factory-installed NP435 after 1986.

I've owned enough different Ford trucks that I learned never to say never about most things about them.
But the T-19 behind a 300 stock is still one I haven't seen in person yet.
The NP435 is my favorite transmission so I have a tendency to hang onto the transmissions when I find them. Even though I've never had to replace one yet. I've got my own little collection of NP435's, T-18's and T-19's in the back corner of my garage.
