winter driving school
One of the best things that I ever did when I was young (oh so long ago), was to spend some time skidding around on a frozen lake.
Of course that was unsupervised, and there was no such thing as a cleared area.
I would just think that here in MN, somebody would set up an icy area on a lake or a flat piece of land. Would be a good thing for kids who had been driving a year or so ( and yes, they would try that stuff on the street, but the ones that are going to do that will do it anyway).
Anybody ever heard of one? I've done a little searching, and I've never found one.

That being said we always had 4-wheelers growing up and we'd do all kinds of stupid crap on them including going onto the ponds and spinning around in circles when they were frozen.
It's not the same as being in a car but it teaches you how to react to certain situations. Just scale it up a little and it's extremely helpful.
I've had the back end of my truck walk around on me a few times but the experience on the quads taught me to let off the throttle ASAP and steer into the slide then counter-steer as soon as the back of the truck has caught traction again.
I have seen some advertisments in the past about general performance driving, skid control and winter driving. That was at Portland International Raceway when I lived in the frozen NW.
I have also seen adds from schools like Skip Barber, Bob Bondurant etc. THey all have different kinds of schools including skid control etc.
Might be worth it.
I am teaching my boy now. We started at a baseball stadium parking lot for SKids, hard braking etc. And then I take him into the mountains, or surface streets early in the morning. We are now up to driving home from the universwity at night.
Never can get enough emergency driving training.

The D&D outfit is a little casual. The link seems to be directed at thrir instructors. It says to go find a local parking lot (assuming winter conditions), and have at it -- demonstrating various skids, and having the customer try them out. Wonder what the lot owners think? (or the cops for that matter)
when you are trying to impress dad by doing something rite the first time, you pay attention to what you are taught.
