Hey guys,I've asked this before but thought I would give it another shot.I know the stock airbox doesn't seal well and it's known to let particles through,if the tabs are still intact, and using a good grease around the seal point of the air filter, would the stock air filter be ok to use? Now I'm not talking about high HP applications, just stock engines running a tuner(truck in sig),would towing a #7500 TT while using a stock airbox raise my EGT's to high?I know this has been covered before but I thought maybe I would ask, long trips towing the TT with the 6637 open element gets kind of annoying.I plan on going with the Ford AIS set up,but just can't do it right now.....thanks alot for the info......Phil
You got gauges so I would say go ahead and try it. If it is to much you will trip the filter minder so thats one way to see if its not getting enough air.
You know you can just build a cold air box around your 6637 to kill the drone so you don't have to worry about it. The drone on my 6637 drove me crazy on certain stretches of road, so I just built a box around it and no more problems.
You will be fine with the stock air box. If you suspect sealing problems you can use some rubber tape under the filer element, around the rim of the lower portion of the airbox to improve the seal. 3M makes the rubber tape, it looks like electrical tape but just a lot thicker and with less adhesive.
I still have the stock air box with a K&N filter and I have no sealing issues and I tow a 10000 TT and my EGT gets up to about 900 max, but I do have a banks intercooler and that helps alot, before my EGT would get up to 1150. My next purchase will be a cold air intake kit.
Phil, I think you'll be fine with the stock air box as long as the lid isn't warped. Just use a little grease around the filter seal, or even some thin weatherstrip. I had to replace mine because my lid warped, otherwise I'd probably still have mine. But the price of that AIS has gone up a lot, and that sucks.
Yeah youre fine since you had gauges. My EGTs got way too high with my stock box + K&N and I blew the seals in my turbo resulting in a new turbo being purchased. I had the DP tuner in it. Its out for now til I get some gauges to do some monitoring.

Looks like the price hasn't changed. I bought one in 2004 for $198 and some change shipped.
How well does the Ford AIS filter kit flow compared to a K&N filter? Trapping all that debris is great but if your air flow is restricted to what a stock filter is then what is the pay off beside not letting all that debris in your engine? The reason i'm asking is because i'm looking to get a diff intake sys for mine. I would like both max air flow and great filtration.
I know Phil can't spring for a CA system right now but this is what I have and its been great. Riffraff Diesel: S&B My plan was for great filtration and never having to buy a filter again since I'm in my truck for the long haul. Phil, I have a Fram filter insert for a stock system if you want it, its only got about 3000 miles on it when I swapped in my S-B. Great price there Clay on that S-B.
