Welcome to FTE Mikey. What exactly are your symptoms and troubles with the cold start? Does it not start? Smoke after it starts?
The little glow plug light on the dash is just a reminder and is not at all related to how long the glow plugs are actually staying on. The PCM will activate the GPR between 0 and 120 seconds depending on air temp, oil temp, baro pressure, etc. The dash light will stay on for a few seconds as a reminder.
With the 7.3, we'll also need to know about past maintenance history. The HEUI system means proper oil changes are critical to injector life. Worn injectors can cause a no or hard start that is sometimes relieved by using the block heater for a few hours first.
yea had a buddy with a 7.3 and had the same symteoms and took it to the dealer they pluged it in and it was not getting good fuel pressure so they replacced a valve in the HPOP and it runs great now. there are so many thing that can make these truck not start.

ok you were right i was in a rush when i did the first one so here it is i replaced all glow plus and both batteries, and the harness under the vavle cover, today i check the gpr that was ok put my modias on it and no codes untill i got to the balance test and it came up with 2 code, 4 times p0269, p0284 cyl. number 3 and 8, also on the running i say perdel and it had a percent sign one was 3.5 and the other was 2.4, not sure what that means,it almost doesnt start after setting 3 days any help i would be very happy
I think you have a bad relay. Just because it lights up a test light doesn't mean full power is going to the glow plugs. The contacts inside get corroded and don't send full power. Turn the key on run out lay a screwdriver across the two big posts on the glow plug relay just make sure its the glow plug relay and not the aih relay for about 30 seconds run back in and try and fire it up.

ok iam bored with the gpr so i replaced it didnt change a thing, the poeple that do injectors by me said i maybe should check compression because if you put a salamander in front of it starts fine and also this truck came from florida. if i ever figure it out will let you all now.
Welcome to FTE, but I have a question... admittedly the ?? is off topic, but my curiosity is up at the moment. What are you referring to when you say "salamander"? Are you talking about a portable heater? The last time I heard someone refer to a portable kerosene "salamander" heater was in an industrial plant setting where they used vertically vented units underneath outside pipelines, valves, and other pieces of process equipment which would otherwise freeze up in the cold weather periods. However, I believe either OSHA or Factory Mutual banned the use of them because of how they could cause localized overheating and result in fires.
Like Dan said. I would check the IPR. Can you check your ICP and see if you have about 500 psi while you are cranking? It takes about that much to get the 7.3 started. Also low compression will make it hard to start when the motor is cold especially if the temperature is cold outside.
yes a portable heater warms up the block, i put auto lites in it but the way it starts has not changed it was this way before i changed eveything and today i check the old gps and never found a bad one, the low compression is the only thing that makes any sense, no matter what i do it never chances, never gotten better never gotten worse.

Do yourself a favor and pull out those Autolite glowplugs when you get this figured out. Too many people have had issues with them expanding in the head and breaking off when they pull them. Stick with Motorcraft to avoid this issue. Sorry man, I know you are still figuring out the issue, but just wanted to help you where I could.
