I have a 1976 f100 with a 300 and 3 on the tree. it has no power steering and no power brakes. I recently bought a 1975 f250 with a 390 auto, power brakes and steering. im wanting to take the 390 and put it in my 76, along with the auto trans and power steering, brakes, etc. what all parts do I need to get from the donar truck, and can my rear end handle a 390? I already have the motor and trans out, and just need some advice on what else needs to be pulled before i sell the rest. thanks
The steering box itself is different on the two trucks. You will also need the towers and possibly the crossmember. Don't forget about the driveshaft and steering column. You're going to have to change a lot of stuff over, and some of it isn't going to fit part for part. I think even the master cylinder is different from a power to a non-power setup.
you will need to swap the radiator from the v8 for obvious reasons including tranny cooler. I believe the radiator support has a smaller opening for the inline trucks. modded mine with a torch and a grinder. the mounting holes are there, it just isn't opened up enough for the wider rad. if your rear end is in sound condition, it'll be fine with the v8, but the u joints may not match from the dana to the 9"- but that is nothing you can fix with your parts truck. dont forget to ****** the engine wiring harness. will make swap day more enjoyable. ps the inline frame 'horns' are much taller, dont try to modify their location. steal the ones from parts truck. dont like to talk about that subject
