I have 06 f350 diesel that I just picked up used. The truck runs great but the power steering seems weak and noisy. Kinda has a shutter in the steering wheel when it is turned. The fluid is pretty dirty and probably needs to be changed.... and or the pump. Any recommendations?
sorry I am very new to this truck. I was reading on here... I am not supposed to use power steering fluid? Thats a first for me... So according to the tech board use atf dextron III? I think I need a book...
pull the return line off at the brake booster, run it into a 5 gal bucket, start the truck and add new fluid to the reservoir until you have changed out the system volume. pretty simple really. 3-5 quarts can't remember exactly how much i used
How do I know if they are hydroboost? The power steering pump and the brake system look totally separate. There is a master cylinder just like a normal truck. The Power steering was up front on the driver side.
Anyways I pumped the old fluid out today and replaced it with MercV. Made a world of difference. The old oil was very thin and wore out. Smelled burnt. I replaced t he fluid and it is much better. I will probably do it again after a few days and see if that fixes it.
if its a diesel it uses hydraboost. hboost uses hyd press from P/S sytem to power the brakes. you should see a pair of hydraulic lines going into the brake booster
