My wifes uncle passed away unexpectedly last month and I am trying to sell his 96 GMC Sonoma to help cover funeral costs since he had no insurance. The oil pressure gauge is pegged at 80 psi. I want to put a real pressure gauge in it but cant fint the pressure sending unit. Anyone have a clue where it is? Its a 2.2 litre 4 cyl with 5 speed trans.
Not positive but I think it is low down on the pass side of the engine. Probably looking at it if you look through the pass side wheel well. It should be a 3 wire sensor.
One problem is that GM used the oil press switch as a fuel cut-off in the event of oil pressure failure. If it is faulty you might just be better with a stock replacement.
truck may have had a high volume, high pressure pump put in it, and that is it;s normal oil pressure.
Any way of finding out without taking oil pan off?
I had a guy look at it the other night, but he was concerend about the high pressure reading. Plus it is pushing oil out some of the seals.
find the oil pressure switch, maybe google will help there, then put a t in so the switch can remain, then put in a cheap mechanical gauge. I don't trust factory gauges anyway, they are usually wrong. the gaskets leaking, may be just because things are loosening up, and need to be tightened, the truck is getting a little age on it. I would buy a can of foaming engine cleaner, and make a trip to the local car wash, where you can wash your own car, get the motor cleaned up for 2 reasons, 1 to find out WHAT is leaking, and 2, it will sell better, and be worth more money, if you pull open the hood, and it is not all gummy with spilled oil
