I have a 2010 ford f 350 with a 6.4 liter direct injection turbo diesel motor-appr. 50,000 miles. I carried in to the service department about a month ago because it was dumping excess fuel. They told me they could not do anything because the check engine light was not on. They said they could not do anything until it got worse. I made a trip and one morning it had blue-black smoke pouring out of the exhaust. I got about 6-7 mpg on the whole trip. I have called the dealership and they said that this model was having some issues with mpg and dumping fuel. Any help I can get? I would appreciate any comments and feedback. I would love to know if anyone else is having any issues with this model.
2007 F-350 6.0 diesel,,,,,I was at the Ford dealer today trying to figure out a ESOF problem, and was talking to a tech. Well one thing led to another and I asked him about the 6.4 with a cylinder head off and he told me it needs a new long block. Turns out the engine fuel rails are internal and the engine was dumping excess fuel into the cylinders on the regeneration mode. The motor can't burn all the fuel so it gets washed past the piston rings into the crank case and over fills it. The motor starts to digest it's own oil and melts the pistons. He told me particullarily #2 and #8cylinder. Thus also causing damage to the cylinder head as well. The cylinder head that was off was the drivers (LEFT) side. Check your oil level, if it's high you may be dumping excess fuel by the rings. P.S. he did praise the new 2011 motor (6.7 Litre) I think it is. It's been in production for 3 years, available to the public this year, made by Ford. Hope this helps.
