Well I am total confused on the whole subject of deleting, bypassing the egr. take it out, leave it in,unplug it So that being said I am ready to do a oil cooler replacement and would like to buy i kit that includes a egr delete as well. Or I think! lol I do have my EGR unplugged right now on my 04 and have noticed that the fan does not come on. That cant be good! Could someone please help led me in the right direction on the right brand/ kit to buy. I know I do not want to purchase the one that you have to replace the intake with the new one that has been welded just because you never know if I would need to return to stock for a buyer in the future. Also not worried about emissions so hopefully this is enough info for you guy to help me make an educated choose.
I did the block off. Some say keep it some say kill it it's up to you. I blocked it off to prevent the need to pull it and clean it/replace it every once in a while. Run a lot better with it blocked off, at least on my truck.
dont care about it looking stock. Just what a good product with good fitment and best price. Hey Cheezit, I seen your response to another egr thread and you said that you use the same basic kit, is that the same brand or just similar? Thanks for the responces.
1 bad - just to be clear there are two parts discussed in the EGR system threads:
There is the EGR valve - which you can leave in or disconnect depending upon the year of your F-250 - can cause a CEL or fan issues.
Then there is the EGR cooler - which is the part that sometimes fails as a result of an oil cooler blockage, this is the cooler sitting under the inlet manifold and hooked into the exhaust below the turbo. Options for the EGR cooler range from :
1. Put in a replacement bulletproof cooler which is heavier made and less likely to fail
2. Put in a delete kit (Sinister or similar) that totally eliminates the EGR cooler - replaces the Y pipe in the exhaust and re-routes the coolant.
3. Blank off and weld up the existing cooler and re-install.
Depending on which State you live in - your state inspection requirements are different -- in Texas there is no need to keep the EGR cooler, however if you live in CA, you probably need to keep it (or make it look like it is still in place).
So from what I gather this what you guys think will be the best setup for me. A Delete kit from Sinister/Rcd and (A) Do not use the block off plate leaving the egr in its place and plugged in or (B) Use the block off plate and have the egr plugged in and just lying somewhere on top of engine.Keep in mind its an 04 and I do not get a check engine light when unplugged but like I said originally I noticed the fan is not coming on! Thanks you guy for all of your help! Just want to make the right choice and do it once.
Just FYI - I ordered the Sinister Kit, the RCD kit showed up at the door. Don't be fooled by the shinny chrome and anodized finish. E-bay is your best bet to save $.

Are you saying that you ordered the Sinister kit expecting a nice shiny finished pipe and got a "plain" pipe (like the RCD) instead???

Great Job Paul. I see numerous threads where this confusion crops up - especially to newer folks. reps to you!
