Starter?

I am thinking that it may be time soon to change the starter on my E99 F350 PSD.

Are the stock starters equipped with gear reduction?

Is there a brand name that works best?

How long do starters usually last (mine gets a work out due to the extreme cold weather).

thanks

They are gear reduction. Try having yours rebuilt if you have someone local.

I agree with David.I usually have mine rebuilt by a local fella. He uses quality parts. We have seen alot of problems with starters bought online and at parts houses on here...Some have bought the high torque starters from Napa and had good luck.
Clean the bolts up good and put some Loctite on them. They area notorius about backing out.

Starter

Is the starter on the earlier IDI 7.3 the same as the PSD 7.3?

I ask because I have a starter left over from the IDI 7.3 that I could have rebuilt.

Our local electric rebuilder shop (which has been in business for the last 30 years and seems to be trustworthy) wants $180 to rebuild the starters.

I hope the current starter lasts until breakup.

For 180 bucks, you can just run down to O'riellys and get a lifetime warrantied starter and save yourself 10 bucks. If it ever starts slowing down, just return it.
