I have a problem... My truck (06 f250 6.0) has started the all famous TBC fault error on the cluster with no trailer hooked up....
Every time that I crank my truck it flashes up and dings and the only way to get it to go away is press the reset button..
My electric brake jack was missing the cover and salt has been on the roads for the past few weeks so I cut it off and installed a new one... I also have checked all the fuses and crap... What else can I check?
Also, the brake controller does power on so I know it is getting power...
I was driving on a long highway trip last weekend (NOT towing) and over bumps it will chime and display "check trailer" I thought there may be some moisture in the 7pin harness or connector. After checking all that out in the rear of the truck and finding nothing I went and put my flashlight back in the center pocket below the brake controller head unit. The chime went off again and displayed "check trailer" I tapped on the face of the controller ---- "check trailer" I reached up and checked connector fitment on the head unit. Connection is good but anytime it is touched it says "check trailer"
I'm leaning towards a bad brake controller module but am wondering if anyone has had similar problems and their fix.
Looks like I will be installing an aftermarket controller in mine. I can't see spending $450 to replace the integrated one.
Have you installed an aftermarket one and if so which one? I've seen a few that plug into the factory wiring and wondering how that works out. Does the TBC Fault message go away? Or do you just keep hitting the button on the dash?
My controller just started going wacky..Driving down the road and it started dinging and telling me to check trailer connections when i didn't have a trailer connected. I checked all the connectors under the truck and all are fine and clean.
Noticed it happend mostly when i hit bumps. So i went to open the compartment door under the controller and it dinged again. I then tapped on the controller and it dinged. Pulled it out, unplugged it and plugged it back in. Tapped on it and it still dinged and TBC Fault. So it's got to be the controller so I was thinking of replacing it with a aftermarket cuz i too am not paying $$$ for a FORD part. So i was just wondering that..
