...'78 F-100 that I'm currently doing a frame off. I am keeping everything original, however I have a friend that has an '87 GT 5.0 that had rebuilt 2 years ago and now but has never started. (Rebuilt to factory specs) He wants to go big block and is giving first option to buy the 5.0 if I want it. Now I'm thinking about buying it and putting it in the truck when the time comes. I am keeping the original 302 (never know what may happen later) and I'll be using the intake, air cleaner, and carb off of it and whatever else I can. I know in '87 the advertised HP was 225, my question is what kind of HP drop can I expect when I put the original intake and 2BBL carb on it? Or should I upgrade the intake? The tranny is a C4.
I'd guess you're going to give up somewhere around 25 HP. You shouldn't have too much of a problem coming up with a good used 4BBL setup though at a swapmeet or EBay.
Hmm why not get an aluminum 4bbl intake and paint it to match the engine? then get a 4bbl to 2bbl adapter and put it on. So it will look stock but you will have a big drop in weight and performance gains. Then go get a Holley 2bbl. they make ones that flow like a 4 barrel.

I had thought about the intake idea because I figure with the loss in power I could make some of it up with the intake.
Before I purchase the '87 5.0, I have a couple of questions that someone may have the answers I'm looking for; I'm pretty sure that I can use the stock distributor ('78), would I have to change anything, maybe the gear? Am I going to be able to use the stock pulleys? I would like to be able to use the power steering setup that i have now. I'm sure someone has done this before and I would like to know if there is anything else that I would have to do to make this an easy swap before I go to far.
