Doing some work at my farm today and found a piece that came off my truck in the road. I have attached some pictures in hopes someone can identify it. Near as I can tell a bolt worked loose.
If you click the pic once you have reached the link it will enlarge further....
I just got my truck (03' F350 XLT 6L powerstroke) it is still under a 4 yr warranty (engine, trans, +few other things)
I am thinking something just wore loose or when they had it on the lot they did a few things and didn't tighten something.
Anyways I am here to find out what it is, and how costly it will be to get it reattached, would this be considered an under warranty repair or what...?
It looks like an A/C compressor clutch to me. Never heard of one coming off like that. If you can find the right hardware, you may be able to re-install it, although it may be out of balance depending on how hard it hit when it fell off.
Thank god I found it, had been traveling up and down fields and hills all day and it fell right there in the driveway in front of the house, luckyyyyyy.
Deff the A/C clutch.. I just messed with mine a couple of months ago because the shims in the clutch werent right.. And it was blowin warm air.. BTW, when you put it back on, dont forget to shim it right!
I do not plan on touching it, its the dealer's problem. I've had the truck for less than a month and do not trust myself to fix it "right". Would the warranty cover this....?
It doesnt sound like it would be covered. I assume you got a A/M warranty which may not over much anyway. I spent 5 years in a dealer fighting with non factory warranty companies that wanted to use used parts, and pay 1/2 the labor rate.
Like it was already stated new compressors are not too expensive anyway, just remeber that you need to hve the refridgerant recoverd with a machine, then you need to remove the compressor, balance the compressor oil, reinstall the compressor, vacum the system and recharge.
Check with the dealer first and see if its covered, maybe do it with a phone call cause some dealers may charge you a 100.00 diag fee just for pulling the truck in the bay. They do that up here, even though anyone could tell you the compresor clutch fell apart.
