Well, the deer lost this time. Jumped in front of me at 55mph, and wasn't pretty. Drilled it with the liscense plate. Surprisingly little damage. Took out the grille, maybe damaged the condenser, and tweaker the bumper just a bit, but you really can't see it.
I get that all the time, I think they need bi-focals. Until then I'll wear the cowcatcher front bumper my wife bought for me. If I have to drive over the coast range every day to get to work, it's a concession to the number of deer that can't read. It also serves well to speed people up in crosswalks.

Yep, gotta watch out for those coastal Mule Deer, especially around Pebble Beach and heading down towards Big Sur.
The wild boar down by Carmel Highlands are a danger too. Remember that motorcyclist that was taken out by the wild pigs as they crossed the road?
I'm a little further south around Hwy 1 at 46 area. It's that stretch over Old Crk Rd and Hwy 46 to Paso Robles. We see deer, boar. bears and occasional mountain lions, lots of bobcats and racoons and eww skunks.
But, same darn critters, all wanting to do the dance in the middle of the road. They just aren't fast enough and I'm not inclined to run the truck off the road to play the avoidance game.....

Wow, to hear governor moon beam speak you would think that CO2 from the EX had killed almost every animal in CA. I guess he is just another idiot politician after all. Too bad he has the power to enforce the "Global Warming Final Solutions Act".

Ohhhh, you're located at that OTHER central coast...that area down towards SoCal that's not really central to anything, yet they call themselves the central coast too. Unlike the Monterey Peninsula which is centrally located halfway between the Oregon border and the Mexican border, right on the coast, hence the geographically correct term, Central Coast!
yeah, yeah, I know, I work in Monterey County every day. Technically we are SoCal according to the Real Estate division points of the state boundary. I'll give you that.
We are even looking at ranch properties near Lockwood. We like it out there. But, we'll keep our ocean front place in "socal" SLO County. When it's 110 over the hill, I come through the deer infested Coastal Mountain range and cool off to a pleasant 65 every night! It's the best.
So deer beware (and other critters too) wear your bi-focals and read and heed the signs, cross only in your designated crosswalks, stay in your lane and we won't meet uncerimoniously. Cuz I'm pretty sure I'll walk er drive away, unscathed.
I have had 2 deer hits. One was a 93 Blazer, drove the radiator into the fan and the second was my Sunbird, it knocked the legs out from under one damaging my headlight and hood.
