Clutch slave cylinder problem.

I was installing a new clutch slave cylinder and I broke the retaining strap...

Any recommendations on how to get it in there without it?

Unhook the line and compress the rod back. Wrap it with some duct tape and slide it in. You can cut the tape off when done. You shouldn't need alot of tape to hold it closed.

Should I try to get the cap to stay on the end of the pushrod? It says it prevents wear, but is it really important?

Or do you think if I left some duct tape on the end of it, it would serve the same purpose?

Well, duct tape isn't holding it.

I don't have any more time to spend with this, I'm just going to buy a new one.

You should be able to get it to work without too much trouble. Unhook the line, or loosen the bleed screw so you can hold it in. Its a bit of a pain, but you can do it.

Also, YES YOU NEED THE CAP. It doesn't seem like much, but as well as preventing wear, the thickness of the cap can change the amount of distance the pushrod will travel. That can affect the operation on the clutch.

The cap wouldn't hurt to be there....PUSH...you can get to compress with enough effort...
