Pros and Cons of 1.15 housing on the 38R?

What are some of the pros and cons of running the 1.15 non-wastegated housing on the 38R?

If you are going from a .84 to a 1.15 then it will be noiceable. Longer time to higher spool speed will be lengthened with a larger exhaust housing outlet no matter the size of the injectors, but the larger the injectors (more drive pressure and quicker) the shorter the time to higher spool speeds. If you are looking for lower egts and exhaust back pressure then it is a trade off.

I have a 38R with the 1.0 housing. I purposely chose it for several reasons:

1. I want to use the EBPV as an exhaust brake
2. I live at altitude (5,000ft) and drive to the mountains most weekends (11,000ft+)

Even without #1, I'd have went with the 1.0 because of the slower spool-up

I have Stage 2s and the 38r/1.15 combo. I drive in 60e most of the time. Spool up is a more noticably slower at the 50-55mph and lower speeds with my 3.73 gears, but comes on like gangbusters from 60 up. My tranny downshifts into 3rd below 60, under hard acceleration, spools up and away she goes! I just step on the accelerator and let the tranny and engine do its things. Most of the time, I just pass in OD without it downshifting at all. I have gotten so used to the way it runs that it all seems normal to me. Most people with a stock truck, with tuner and the basic mods, comment how hard it pulls and don't seem to notice the lag at all.

I haven't replaced the stock injectors (yet) so I can't answer if they would change how fast it spools, but keep in mind I'm at much higher elevation than most others, so the air I have to work with is less dense and makes lag worse.

Good point Brendan. I live at 5k and most of my driving is between 4500 and 7500 and altitude certainly makes a difference. I know I get a few pouinds more boost down in Phoenix and will have to pay more attention to the spooling characteristics next time I'm down there. I'll have to smoke out an on ramp or two with a WOT test.

I would think that with bigger sticks, the lag would be less noticeable despite it's larger size... kinda like a truck can accelerate as fast a rice burner provided it's got the power. I'd really be curious as to how noticeable it is... what'd be cool is that if both you and Clay could take videos of their boost gauges while doing an X-mph to Y-mph thing where you both shove your pedals through the floor and then post it up on YouTube.
