ok so ive search high and low and tried several priming techniques ive read and nothing except starting off the filter for maybe 15 seconds of run time and dead batteries...ive been trying to prime it for 2 days...non stop and its getting very old very fast not being able to prime it...so far ive opened all the injectors to get the air out and just opened up the num 1 cylender ive had them all closed ive tried a vacum pump on the open schroder valve and a couple others i cant remember...i tried all of these for about 45 min apiece and have had very little sleep...am i doing something wrong or is my truck or my neighbor or myself just retarded...the pump works and is an oem replacement...my truck is an 85 f250 6.9l with an ats turbo...im desperate please help
Are you saying you are not getting fuel to the injectors? Your post reads like it will run if you fill the fuel filter then quit after 15 seconds.
Need to know if you are getting fuel at all and at what point. Did you install the lift pump correctly and make sure the arm was in the right position? Is the fuel shutoff on the injection pump working? Make sure there is power to the shutoff and that it clicks when you turn the key on.
Have to ask, is there enough fuel in the tank? Is it cold enough that the fuel could be gelling?

Reason: added question

X2!! Turbill and I tried starting his truck. We added 3 gallons of fuel and that wasn't enough (so his pickup mght be busted off). We weren't getting fuel at the schrader valve, which is the tire valve looking thing. I usually stick a phillips screwdriver in to see if fuel sprays out.
We tried again with 7 more gallons of fuel and then we had fuel at the schrader valve in 2 cranking sessions. We had fuel going from the filter to the injection pump, but nothing at the injectors. We found out the wire for the Fuel Shutoff Solenoid, FSS, had been damaged. We repaired it and the old beast fired right up!
Loosen all your injector lines a few turns, enough that fuel will obviously come out. Top off your fuel filter with either diesel or ATF. Use a test light and make sure you have power at the two connections of the drivers side of the injection pump. The FSS is the one on the drivers side, toward the rear. You must have power to that connection when the key is on. If not, it won't open and the fuel will not pass through the pump to the injectors. Crank on it, 20 seconds cranking and 2 minutes waiting to cool the starter off. It'll fire in about 5 cranking sessions. Trust me, I've done it this way a ton of times...and I've had smoke pouring out of my ears at times just like you!! But first be sure you have power to the FSS!
Did you install one of the new long arm lift pumps....... it should have come with a HOW TO sheet.......
WARNING
This fuel pump must be installed only at the low position of actuator cam.
If the pump is installed at any other position than low cam, the pump will be ruined, the engine will stall and damage may result.
Incorrect installation will loosen the pivot pin and allows the pin and lever to come out of the pump and drop into the oil pan. This can occur immediately or after several hundred miles. This type of failure is not covered by warranty.
To ensure that the cam is at low position, it is necessary to use a mirror and a remote starter switch. Observe the cam through the mounting port and bump the engine around until a one (1) inch wide machine surface is observed. This is low position of the cam. Now complete normal fuel pump installation.
This may NOT be your problem........ if you want you can remove the fuel line from the lift pump and place a hose directly to a 2 gallon fuel can.... eliminating the fuel tank/selector system completely If it starts and runs then you have identified part of the problem. If you find you did not install the fuel line to the lift pump........ you would not be the first.
yea i replaced the liftpump on my 7.3. it was kind of a PITA to get it turned. lockely mine is a 5 speed so i just put it in 5th and pushed it. just make sure you have a god mirrir, and a good light.
I had 3/4 on the front tank when i started but i will add more...ive taken the pump out and checked to make sure that it was instanned correctly and it was...i will try some of the stuff suggested thanks guys i appreciate it...glad its a long weekend in case this thing wants to keep beeing a pita

you searched high and low about the old school stocker, but you haven't searched for newer, much improved modifications yet.
search for: "electric fuel pump" to see if this would be of interest to you.
Im about two seconds away from ordering one man lol...ok so i have power to the electical connection on the front drivers side of the ip but not the back could that white wire be my nemisis right now
Mistaken...if i manually fill the filter it pulls the fuel from the filter n i get about 15 seconds of run time then it dies from no fuel...i tried the seperate tank n it sucked from there so my pump is working now i have it hooked back to the tank and its not priming. Ive check my fuel selector and its getting power so im assuming thats not it...ive filled the tank so no fuel in there is not an issue...im at a loss because theres something im missing and its driving me insane
if its working from one tank but not the other, then you have a problem with the selector valve on that tanks port,or the pickup in that tank.simply having power at the valve, doesn't indicate weather or not its good or bad.bypassing it will show you the way.
your narrowing things down.
good luck.
If ive never switched tanks or had an issue before the new tank its gonna anger me that ive wasted 2.5 days because of a part that chooses it doesnt like my new part...its starting to remind me of my wife lol
did you use the old pickup in the new tank? did it work prior?
these engines are pretty simplistic,so as long as it pumps fuel from a diesel jug with the pump hooked directly to it using a short hose, you know its something to do with the lines/fsv or pickup in the tank.it's just a process of elimination.you'll get it.
ahh,them pats flopped tonight.
ahh well,maybe next year.
Yeah its the same tank ive always used with no problems...the last time i used it was about 30min before i started taking the old pump off...ive lifted the rear of the truck to a 45deg angle now hoping for a siphon effect i hope it works
Ive never had this much problems with a mech fuel pump before its real aggrivating so im changing my life moto to "u know what its like when u try and u try and u just dont get nowhere" from i am sam
