Yep. The adjuster deemed the repair cost more than the value of the car. Its still driveable. No mechanical damage which is great. We can get the parts cheap. All we need is a front bumper, passenger side fender and light unit and some paint.
Your guess is as good as mine. I went and had a look. Its a straight road posted at 45 mph. It was snowy and he said he was only doing 37 mph, started to slide and lost control. The car traveled at least 30' off to the right before he went through that fence and into someones yard. He probably went through all sorts of over corrections trying to avoid the skid. He got a ticket for it that says he was traveling too fast for the road conditions. He wants to fight the ticket. I think the cop called it right even though he didn't see it. The boy is pretty cut up about it. Obviously I'm glad he wasn't hurt but I'm hoping he will become a better driver for it. This is his second collision in three years of driving. Hope he learns his lesson!
The good bit was when I took him to pick up a rental. He was reluctant to drive it and I thought "That's good, maybe he's learned his lesson" Watching him come out of the rental lot was like watching a new driver on his first day alone.
Scratcher I wonder when he had time to look at the speedo & see 37 MPH,I think what you said has alot of merrit, I'm just glad he is ok, Gigger
Lord knows I made my share of mistakes.
Scratcher I wonder when he had time to look at the speedo & see 37 MPH.
That's EXACTLY what I thought as he relayed his tale to me.When are you ever so precise about what speed you were doing at any given time? He even said that a neighbor was looking out of her window and thought he was only doing around 35mph when he lost control.
