Hey all - Am kinda new here. I post on the 7.3 superduty forum a lot. Anyway I have an 2006 E-350 with the 5.4. It has about 38k on it. Here lately when I start it in the morning (cold start only) it will make a loud clunk that I can almost feel under the truck. I checked the starter bolts & one was a little loose. Tightened it up a while back but it is still making the noise intermittantly. Any input or thoughts much appreciated. Thanks, Bill
Gearloose- No -the bolts were all tight and the one that was a little loose was only a little bit loose - Gave it about 3/4 of a revolution. Any other thoughts, Can heater blend door hit that hard possibly?
don't want to scare you but it could be the timing chain tensioner, I wouldn't expect it to go after only 38k but it's possible, does it tap at all, or just one clunk? they sound similar to a knocking rod that just knocks once or twice real loud on start up or they will tap until you build oil pressure.
noise diagnosis has to be the hardest thing to do over the internet haha.
