We took my friends bed off to get to the welded on gooseneck hitch on his 03 CCSB F250. Ended up cutting the 3 forward bed bolts off w the torch. Any idea where to get them, other than ford? need the 3 bolts and clips
Those are probably high grade steel don't use regular bolts on there they may not be strong enough. Home depot does carry some high grade bolts but I don't know if they have a high enough rating, try asking the ford dealer.
Yeah, I had to cut three of eight myself, just never got around to replacing them. And actually, does anyone know if the bed bolts are torque-to-yield as some have suggested?
We wire wheeled and antiseezed the old bolts and put them back in. but i still need 3. Found a couple used sets on ebay but they want $29 for 8 clips and $29 for 8 bolts
Of course ford sells all that stuff. I bought new clips and use regular grade 5 bolts metric I think they were 14 mm maybe 12 mm. Then I tapped the plates as the plates have no threads in them...No way am I gonna deal with those torx crap again and now they come out easy because I threaded the plates. They don't bother me that they stick up as I have a rubber matt under my bed liner.

Just put em in and tighten em down. Not like its a wheel that could fall off..
I agree, that's why its puzzling to me that the bolts might be TTY. They're not like head bolts where the tension is vertical, but I would think any force on bedbolts would be at ninety degrees to the longitudinal - i.e., a sheering force.
Unless you want to lift the truck by the bed, I have a hard time believing the bedbolts are TTY!
Plus, I'm with 99350sd. I might eventually replace them all with heads.

My truck has them replaced with hex heads (by former owner). Getting a load of gravel out of the bed is a bear because the shovel runs into the damned things. Aren't the hex heads rounded to avoid that? I don't remember the problem in my old f150.

Yes. Torx headed bolts are rounded to avoid things catching them

There is a lot more stress on those bolts than you think, especially when the truck is loaded the frame will flex with road conditions and also they need to be strong in case of a wreck so the bed doesn't come flying off. Also stress on the bolts will change with weather conditions and they need to meet shear strength standards.
