Warn Premium Swap

I just got done putting the Warn Premium Manual Lockouts on my 2001 F250. They are GREAT! I ALMOST paid my mechanic shop labor to do it, but I figured I'd give it a shot. As someone else posted, "I didn't have time to finish my beer, it was that quick".

MY QUESTION: If I engage them to "lock", I don't get a click at the end of the LONG 9/10 of a full turn. However, if I engage them to "free", I do hear a click at the end of the turn. Is this normal? I didn't use the small retainer clip (factory had one on it on the inner portion and I don't have a groove to hold it in place once the inner hub was slid on).

If you are looking at a SURE way to know if you 4x4 will be operational, this is the way to go (aside from transfer case problems, I guess). My four wheel drive was intermittent, at best for the past 2 years. I should have done this SOONER!

Its the ESOF switch on the dash. I've owned the truck for 5 years, and about 6 months after I bought it, I was unable to move the factory hubs. I determined they were in "lock" position, so it wasn't that big of a deal. Lately though, I believe I was having vacuum issues, as the 4x4 wasn't working quite like it should. This solved the problem!!

I just installed the premiums on my front wheels and have used them in the recent snow we have had.
I noticed a "click" in both directions. For conveinence, I locked the hubs in and when I needed the 4 WD, I simply turned the switch inside to 4X4 High.
Works great.
I did not use that small C-clip furnished with the kit; just the big spiral clip that replaces the OEM spring clip that fits on the outer groove.

when i installed mine they didn't "click" right away. i found once you get the truck moving again they seemed to click in. jack one side of the truck up, lock the hubs in and see if the front driveshaft spins. i love mine and will never go back to the factory ones. i think everyone is getting soft about owning a truck. they expect it to ride like a car and heaven forbid you have to get out to lock in fourwheel drive. sorry for the rant

I just did an auto to manual conversion as well on my 04 F250. I put the Milemarker Stainless Steel hubs in though. I love the all metal construction and they look and operate great. Easy install and all for under 100 bucks from summitt. They are on sale now for $89.50 plus shipping came to $99.45. I should have done this years ago instead of fooling with those damn Plastic vacuum pieces of s%*t from Ford.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I did check before I put the wheels back on (I removed them because I wanted to clean out the internal portion of the hub with ATF to make sure things looked good with the splines, and didn't want to get them messed up) to see if they were "locking and unlocking", despite the lack of "click" in the lock position. They were working as they should. I figured I'd call the Warn line on tuesday, just to be sure.

I compared the Warn to the Mile Marker. I heard goods and bads on both, but I liked the 9/10 of a complete turn the Warns had, as well as some of their components used internally. I do snow removal and work with salt, so corrosion is a huge enemy of mine! I'm actually going to remove them and put a little synthetic green grease on the factory splines. The Warns come "pregreased" but I had dry splines against one another, and recalled the amount of "rusty water" that came out when I took the crappy Ford ones out. Forgot to live by the "if you don't have time to do it right the first time, when will you make time to redo it the right way?" attitude....
