AOD TRANSMISSIONS
I put a 84 AOD in my 51. That the only thing i didn't rebuild . I have only drove it like 2 miles so far and it changed gears BUT it was slow going into high. Well this has buged me so i talked to a trans. guy and he said it had a valve sticking from sitting up for so long and he would fix it for 150.00. I went to Summit and got a new valve body from tci with a shift kit and it delievers 200 psi at all times. This makes up for any bad ajustment that may come from the cable that go's to the carb. SO WHAT YA THINK. Mr. Transmission. I know there one on this site.

The first generation of AOD's have had a reputation for not being very great. I have one from 1985, and it's toast, lol. That said, I can see one being rebuilt to handle much more power like any other. If you have time on your hands, you can check this site out: Click Click Racing - Click Click Racing

Thanks Carnut after seeing this i know now that was the trouble. Well guess a new vavle body can't hurt . It has a streetfighter shift kit in it too boot. I HAD SLACK IN MY CABLE. You get a AT-TA-BOY !!!!!!

Glad to hear that might be it. I wouldn't run the truck until you adjust it as from what I've read, it may cause you to burn up some friction material.
