Potato Launcher

Howdy all,

Ok, just kind of curious here. When I met my wife over two years ago, I got introduced to this homemade "Potato Launcher". I could have never even drempt up this thing.

A little hairspray, some PVC, and an old Coleman Lantern ignitor and you can shoot potatoes an easy 200 yards.

Maybe growing up in a fair sized city gave me sheltered life, but how many of you have ever heard of one?

They're cool at night because they shoot about a 3' flame out the end, too and on New Years when every is shooting their guns and the "rocket launcher" goes off, all the little kids go "Mom, what was THAT?"

Any replies are appreciated and I might even possibly post the materials needed if anyone is interested.

I have to admit to being a redneck "'cus we got us a 'tater shooter and a bug zapper that we watch on Friday nights".

me and my friend made one out of a "super scope" for super nintendo. we hollowed out the inside and a inserted a piece of 2" pvc (i think it was 2") we used a grill ignighter for a trigger. it worked well and looked even better.

Ether works even better
My friend uses golf *****, and even built a breach loader.
Those golf ***** must go over a thousand feet.....really really fast. Shot one thru a piece of 3/4" plywood at 50ft.
Of course he is a little "nuts"

We made a couple in shop class back in highschool. We used lead pipe with screw fittings (got to be safe). One of the kids in the class decided to use acetylene from the welding torch as we were out of starter fluid. Needless to say, the kids dad ended up paying for a piece of a garage door and that was the end of making them in shop.

oh boy.... old times... i made one a few years ago when i was 16, what fun. im usually nervous with them though, ive got mine rapped TIGHT with duct-tape. and the pvc connections are screwed together. i always use Aqua-Net hair spray, i dont trust anything more explosive than that. i almost hit a rabbit on the run one time, i know it sounds mean but how could i not fire a shot at it? then there was a truck parked a 1/4 mile from my house in a field... being a punk kid i fired a shot at him right as he started to drive away... the spud landed exactly where he was parked!! i would have blown the topper right off his truck !!

be careful though, i dont know if they are legal or not. i had cops looking at mine one time, they never said anything about it though.

some times it surprises the heck out of me, it fires so loud once in a while it makes my ears ring- like a 12 guage going off
