49F2 Pinion & drive gear swap ?

From researching a lot of old post I see most people swap out their their rear axles for a 68 to 72 rear axle if they are looking for a better driving gear ratio . As I am attempting to keep pretty close to stock I really hate to do this . I noticed in my shop manual that there were appearently a few F2 & 3s made with a 4.11 gear ratio instead of the normal 4.86 . I called Antique Auto Supply in Arlington on the chance they might have 4.11 pinion and drive gear , but no luck . They did come up with a part number O-1Y4209A . They said this would fit F2&3s 48-52 .Does anyone know of a source of pinion & drive gears that would work with these old axles ? I'm not looking for 70+ mph speeds , but if I could get 55 without the engine shaking apart I would be tickled .

Here's an old thread on the subject. I've got 4.11s in my front and rear. Chuck Mantiglia of Chuck's Trucks (Chucks Trucks LLC., Chuck's Trucks, Chucks Trucks) modified racing gear sets to work in the stock cases. Stu

49 Pinion & gear drive

I'm slow getting back to you with a thanks for the info . In the past month I have gone back through several years of old post and have had many questions answered without having to ask them , however I guess I completly missed the one on the link you gave me . I have contacted Chuck and he is sending me the 4.11 swap kit as he calls it . This is defently not a " cheep " option but to me it is worth it as I was dead set on keeping my old axel . I'm having some body work done so it will be a little while before I get it in , but i'm looking forward to the improved driveability .

Glad you made connection with Chuck. You'll maybe beat me having your truck back on the road so I'd appreciate hearing how you like it. Like you said, you should at least be able to keep up with traffic. Stu
