I have a 2002 F-250. My problem is the front hubs. There plastic and hard to turn, is this normal? Also when the hubs are in auto and you turn the
selector to fourwheel drive it does not engage. It use to work, but now
it just quit. Please help. Thank you.
If you can't turn the drive shaft, that tells the transfer case is working and the problem is in the hubs somewhere... maybe like Rick says, a vacuum leak.. I just replaced my vacuum soleniod which fixed mine.. Try disconnecting the vacuum at the top of the vacuum tank at the fitting that goes downward towards the hub.. Turn the key on, (don't start) and see if you have vacuum at this fitting.. (your vacuum pump should be running continuely)
Are you defrosters working OK ?
Im going with a vacuum leak. Check at both hubs and see if the vacuum lines are attached. If they are attached there then trace the wires back to the vacuum solenoid on the passanger side inner fender. One of the lines will be broken/split somewhere
I had to change my vac pump solonoid to get mine to work back a few years.Changed both tubes going to the hubs, greased inner hubs(per Guzzle) and it ended up being a dead solonoid
