I know spring is coming. Probably sometime in June after another blizzard . Time to start thinking about exhaust. I want to add a Flowmaster 40 series with dual tailpipes. Basically, a cat-back system. Does Flowmaster make an American Thunder type system for a 2003 F250 Super Crew with a 5.4l and four wheel drive? If not, I'll have to bend my own tailpipes. If they do, (I couldn't find a part number on their website), what is the part number? I need to make my truck sound better as well as flow better. Truck sounds kinda wimpy.
I'm wanting to do something similar on my V10. I thought about going with the Flowmaster 40, 3in in/dual 2 1/2 out, with the pipes exiting out the rear on both sides of the spare.
I've read and heard that you can't run the duals out the back without taking the spare off. Has anyone run in to this? Is there much sound difference when running duals out from the muffler versus the single out FM 40? Any performance impact?
You can run duals out the back and retain the spare. I've done this on other Super Duties. I have a hydraulic pipe machine/bender. I was just wondering if Flowmaster had a kit with the 40 series muffler and 3" in and dual 2.5" outlets exiting the rear or the side. I'm not real particular.
Hey jamesg,
I had someone tell me that a shop in PA refused to convert his truck to real duals even with a second cat. They said it was illegal in PA.
Can anybody else confirm???
I don't see how it can be illegal if you retain the cats or install different cats on a true dual. PA has no emission testing, nor do they require the "factory original type" exhaust. As long as the tail section exits the body behind the cab, it should be legal. I know this rule varies by location. In the larger cities, I know they have been checking for cats. I don't plan on taking my cat off. I was going to use a single in/dual out set-up.
Down here in Montgomery County, they test the emissions with a sniffer while running on a dyno to put it under load conditions....they even test the gas cap!
That bites In Northumberland county, they just' make sure it exits the body and does not leak. As long as you exit the body after the cab and the system doen't leak at all, you'll get a sticker. We were supposed to get county wide emissions testing, but the deal fell through years ago and nothing has been done since.
