Well the choise is yours. It's mostly climate dependant. 80-90 gear oil will work fine if your in a place where its 40F and higher. Under 40F factory says 50w motor oil can be used. I've used mobil one 0-5w in one trany that was "on it way out" when i got it funny thing the noise whent away and it shifted fine. I put over 80,000 miles on the trany and it was fine when i sold the truck.

My choise for my 65 f100 as i tow with it and it gets cold here (-8F this morning) was 50w motor oil with a can of Tuf-Oil additive. Shifts like butter.

Oh you asked how much? Untill it drips out the fill hole. Apox 2.5 quarts. I change mine every time i do u-joints ~5 years. and do the rearend at the same time.
