Limited slip?
I am trying to figure out if I have a limited slip. I have a 2002 f150 XL sport. 4.2l 5 speed 3.55 rear gear. What do I look for other that dual tire tracks to tell if it is limited slip(posi) whatever the proper term is? Thanks

Simple check for limited slip...
To check quickly for a limited slip or posi differential, just jack up the rear of the vehicle, release the parking brake, put trans in neutral & then rotate one of the rear tires by hand. If the other tire rotates in the same direction, you have a limited slip diff. installed. If the other wheel rotates opposite from the one you're turning then you have an open differential. Always works & is easy to do!

If you jack up the rear end, you can leave the transmission in gear or park and try turning one tire. The open diff will turn easily, and the opposite tire will turn the other direction. If you have a LSD, you will feel a resistance, which if you overcome it, will still get the other tire turning in the other direction. The break-away torque for most Ford LSD is about 40 lb-ft.
This works most of the time, unless the LSD clutches are too worn out.
