I posted this problem on another forum and didn't get much help at all. From time to time my accelerator pedal is "dead"...I don't mean sluggish, I mean dead. '05 F-250 CCSB. A while back my truck died on the side of the road, wouldn't restart. Had it towed to my house. I checked the FICM and it was bad. Repaired FICM using write up available here and elsewhere and reinstalled. Truck fired right up and idled fine. I drove the truck for several days with no problems. Stopped for fuel one evening and noticed that the pedal had to be depressed about halfway to get any response. Drove truck about 2 miles this way and stopped red light. When light turned green I pressed pedal pretty hard and there was nothing! Idled across intersection and stopped in parking lot. Shut truck off and attempted restart, no start. Caught a ride home and made arrangements for a tow. When I got back to the truck, it fired right up and I drove it home, no problems. Came out next day started right up but no pedal response. Pushed pedal to floor several times and all at once it took off. I checked the FICM connectors and they seemed OK. Kept starting and driving for 2 or 3 days with intermittent dead pedal. No CEL has ever been displayed this whole time. I found a good deal on a new pedal (thanks PartsGuy ED!) and ordered one. It came in today and I installed it right away. Truck started right up and idled fine. I took off in the truck and right away the throttle was more responsive...fixed right? NO! Drove truck about 3 miles down the highway and turn off road at traffic signal, I coasted through the turn and when I depressed the pedal it was dead again. I pushed it 2 or 3 times and it came back. I stayed on some side streets for awhile and everything seemed OK, crisp acceleration and no hesitation. Made one last turn before getting back on highway and again no response. I held the pedal to the floor for about 5 minutes while idling down this street at 8 mph...all at once it caught and nearly broke my neck. I kept my speed up and ran a stop sign to get back on highway while it was working right and came home with no issues. Parked truck and cracked throttle several times, truck revved right up every time. Held brake and put into gear and revved a few times...again, worked every time. I don't have a dealer in my town, and the one I usually use is always about 2 weeks behind and an hour away. I don't have a code reader (if anyone knows a good one, I might purchase one), but no CEL has ever came on. Any ideas on what to check? I don't want to just start throwing parts at it as that can get expensive quick. I've looked at similar threads on here and some suggestions are ICP and EGR, but I can't find any of the treads where the OP actually said what fixed their problem. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to get as much info out as possible!
I had that same problem.
It was the ICP.
It will not let the motor rev if it does not sense enough oil pressure. My HPOP was fine, just a sensor issue.
So far engine runs fine. When you say ICP trick, do you mean unplugging? What should I expect as far at the truck running with the ICP unplugged? I've heard of folks unplugging it for a no start, but will it be OK to drive with it unplugged? I had my EGR system replaced in late 2009, and I haven't noticed any smoke at all during operation. Other that unplugging, is there any other way to check ICP? Just hate to buy another part on a maybe...
Yes, I have adjustable pedals. I checked the wiring and everything seemed OK. Went ahead and unplugged ICP and started truck. Fired right up. I drove it around for nearly 30 minutes without any problems. Last time I tried it (last night) I began having issues about 5 minutes into the trip. I believe I've found the problem and just need to replace it ICP. Does anyone have the Ford or International part numbers? My truck is a 2005. I really appreciate the help from you guys.
i had the same problem about 8 months ago. i even took it to the dealer and they changed the pedal but it started doing it again in a week. someone on one of these sites told me how to fix the problem. the problem was that my wife was not driving the diesel on long enough drives to burn off the carbon that was building up on the egr and jamming it open. simple fix was to clean the egr and drive the truck like you stole it reving it up to 3000rpms. did this a couple of times and i started driving the truck to work a couple times a week so that the engine got used. don't know what you do with your truck but if you only drive around town the engine doesn't get hot enough to burn of the carbon on the egr hope this helps you
