I have a 96 F350. It started just fine, came back put to it and was not running. WTS light was not coming on so went to GPS and jumped it. Started right up. Will be replacing the GPS when it comes on at the store. Is there anything else I should be checking for. New to the SDs thanks for your help.
Thanks Superduty4x4 I understand that. What about the jumping of the solenoid and it starting right up.
Well, the glow plugs are designed to help with cold starts, so its no mystery why jumping the solenoid helped it fire back up. It's not the root of the problem though... what caused it to die. Once the engine is running the glow plugs aren't doing it any favors. If it was running and quit, you shouldn't be worrying about the glow plugs. Was it running at a consistent idle, or did it just start up and run kind of rough before it quit?
The fuel bowl heater corrodes and shorts out. It's tied to the same circuit as the PCM so when it shorts out, it pops the fuse for that circuit cutting power to the PCM.

Its a fairly simple swap... remove the fuel bowl lid, remove the stand pipe (LEFT HAND THREAD) and pull the heater out and replace it, but it's not super necessary. Many people just unplug it and forget about it.
Rick your last post has me curious...

Unless you are in the arctic , you won't need it .. If you want a new one they are kind of spendy .. some have replaced theirs with the 99 up version .. about 30 .00
