i cant help with the lifted part but fords suck with bigger tires. anything larger than stock and they groan and dont like to turn the added weight pressure of the larger tires. i know for a fact that chevys and dodges turn larger tires with almost no added diffucility. i had two boxes and a new pump under warrenty when i bought my 04 new because it wouldnt turn 285 75 16 when cold in the winter. it still isnt like it should be but i learned to deal with it
I ended up having the steering gear box replaced under warranty. Most of my noise is gone, however there is still a slight groan as I turn to the left.
With new ball joints, all new tie-rod ends and a new gear box what could be making this noise??? I'm at a loss....
On a better note... with all those parts replaced, my lifted 2004 Superduty drives like a dream. Feels like a whole new truck.
Stupid question here, but have you checked the fluid in the power steering pump? I moan or groan can be an indication of low fluid. Also check to see that no power steering hoses are rubbing when the wheels are turned. This too can cause a moan.
I flushed the fluid and re-filled with Mercon V at the first sign of noise. Couple months later, I pulled both power steering lines off, cleaned them well and re-installed after reading a service bulletin that states to replace the lines if there is abnormal noise. Also, the Ford dealership noted fluid costs as part of the steering box replacement so I think the thing has had new fluid about 3 times in the last 6 months....
I guess it's time to just accept that there is a little noise sometimes and be thankful that it drives like a new rig now....
I am a proud new owner of a 2008 F250 Super Duty Lariat V10 4X4 crew cab short box, 7100 miles automatic,(just sold my Diesel truck) and I have this problem when taking off normal speed I feel like a hump and only on first drive and when I am slowing down and trans shifts to first gear again, I checked drive line, u-joints, and rear end and I can't find the problem. My next thing is I am going to remove the driveline and check for play at the rear end and transfer box, any sucgestions will be appriciated, thank you in advance. I am getting about 12 mph so far. P.S. I bought this truck from a private owner and he said that he did not know about the hump, there is no glunk noise at all. It feels like the drive line moves back when I take off and it moves foward when I slow down from second to firts gear with the brakes are applied.
