Took stock radio in 1980 F250 out and put in cd player. Hooked up to same wires as old radio. Rewired for new speakers. New stereo now only works when headlights are on. When lights are turned off then all the memory including clock has to be reset. Any help on this would be appreciated.
You probably have the 12 v supply lead connected to the ilumination input. On lead supplys 12 volt power to the radio and one lead supplies stereo illumination when you turn your lights on, those are probably crossed allowing 12 v power to be supplied to your radio only when the lights are turn on.
