Installing Distributor in a 460ci

I'm trying to set the timming closer than the last guy did. I pulled the distributor out, I had the timing mark to 0 TDC on the crank before I pulled it out, that should put the rotor button pointing at the #1 in the distributor right? If could get some awsome timing advice it would be great.

The button is on the top and contacts the coil wire.
The tip is what should point at #1.
It needs to start at a position to the left (counter clockwise) of the position it will end up in by 20 degrees or so.
When the distributor is seating and the gear engages the cam, it will be forced to turn into position.
I try and keep the vacuum pot facing almost straight forward. This leaves a lot of room to adjust the distributor. But with a tooth in either direction it should still be ok.

Thanks for the Tip. Any Idea why I would be getting slight shuddering while driving, It happens when the trans is shifting from 3rd to OD like its misfiring unless the rpms are high as soon as i let off and it reaches desired speed. It shudders you can feel it in the engine, I can shut the OD off and just keep it in 3rd and not feel it as bad. I know the manifold exhaust donuts need to be replaced. Could that be causing it?
