I recorded a minute of audio on my start up this morning. It was 30F. I can email the audio from my BlackBerry if anyone is that curious and probably could even post it here if I knew how.
EDIT: I made a YouTube video capturing the audio of the cold start. I added a picture slide show trying not to be a blank screen of the audio track. Anyway, here is the link to the YouTube video: YouTube - 2011 King Ranch
Yup, that is the sound. If you stick your head lower, I did on the passager side, then you can hear it very well
Thanks for the video. From it, can anyone say what the sound might be?
Mine does the same. I plugged mine in for the first time early this morning (about 1.5 hours before I left for work) and it didn't make the sound when I started it. I think I'll plug it in nightly until it gets a little warmer. My truck is parked in the garage every night, but it's been so cold that doesn't help much.

If you don't mind plugging it in several nights in a row, it will be interesting to see if you don't have the noise several mornings in a row.
This doesn't fix anything, I simply am interested for no other reason.
(I don't have the plug or I would.)

Will do. Plugged it in last night, so I'll let you know.
Mine started doing this back around September when it started getting colder. At certain temps and RPMs it was obnoxious.
After three trips to the dealer as well as the involvement of Honeywell and Ford engineers, they replaced the turbo and all has been well ever since. If yours is like mine was, it's a noise the turbo is making and resonating through the DOC.
It's probably nothing to worry about. I had mine replaced because at that point nobody had heard of this problem, and I was a bit nervous!

Just started it again this morning after being plugged in overnight and no noise.
Mine made that noise when it was new. It no longer does it. I never thought twice about it. There are so many moving parts on these things and parts make nosies when they are cold.

I didn't notice any turbo noise this morning either.
It was 18 outside and 46 in my garage where I had it parked.
We all already knew it was cold temp. related but this just adds more proof.
On a side note, the drastic temp. change created quite a bit of exhaust steam this morning too. Two vehicles behind me had to change lanes.
It's probably in shock since I don't normally keep it in a garage.
Mine does the same noise, sounds just like a back up alarm!!
Only lasts one to 2 minutes pending how cold it is. i do have some good videos of it i will try and figure out how to upload.
