i know it cant be good for it but how bad is an occasional boosted launch up to about 2k rpms in 4x4 on the tranny? 2003 f350 6.0 drw 4x4 studs and egr delete
If you really want to, occasional it is ok, dont hold it at a stand sill for too long. Use good tuning like innovative quick tricks auto or gear head, and service the trans every 30,000 miles.
Some guys do this while at the strip or when racing on the street. I guess the whole point is to build up boost and avoid the initial lag when the light goes green.
I tried it once when doing a 1/4 mile run and I burned all four 35" tires for what seemed like forever. It did seem to give me a jump if I kept it under control.
The thing is you have to decide what purpose you want your truck to serve. If it is your daily driver and you need it to get to and from work, then I wouldn't do it. If it is just your project and you love to romp on it go ahead and boost launch away, but be ready when the breakage heads your way.
To those who don't know what he's talking about, go on youtube and watch some of the 6.0's race. 90 percent of them are doing a boosted launch.
For sports "cars" they sell torque converters with higher stall speeds,
so you can rev up the engine w/o having the transmission fighting
the brakes (or is it breaks! )
Not sure if such a thing is available for a "truck" or if you'd want one,
but that is essentially what the boosted launch is achieving.
Come on guys !!!!! Are you all as old as me,
I thought this was a younger crowd than me ??????
Back when I was tuning mine I did many of them in both the 03 Ex and the 05 Ex (@ the strip of course )- none the worse for wear @ 120k miles....
and sometimes it comes in handy to merge with traffic here in DFW ....
Can it break something ?
Yes, it could, will it ? Probably not unless you are doing it daily
but I'll guess the tranny is the strongest link in the drivetrain... just don't sit there for more than a second or two or you will wear out your clutches....
and IF you do it.... put all loose stuff into a secure location because all your loose change, cell phone, etc will end up in the back

The Direct Clutch being the weakest link of those.
Have I don it....sure. Would I suggest doing it......no.
It's hard on quite a few things. Problem is, the truck(and you) might survive the 1st, 2nd, 20th time, but it does wear and more often then not, it'll crap out at the worst possible time.
Now is this an old fuddy duddy's outlook...yes, but I also don't like being broke down hauling horses either. Build it up to handle the stress, get something that is already built for that stress, or don't do it.
Don't try it at 2000 rpm...all you'll do is fry the tires. Do it at about 16 or 17 hundred. Just don't stay on the converter very long...they don't like all that heat.
