If you're that concerned, just go buy the Ram. The hemi may be a stout motor, but everything the Ram has behind the motor is less than adequate for the HP and TQ it produces. So buy the Ram, then come back to us in a few years when the transmission and running gear is shot.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The F150 is not the fastest, strongest, or most efficient powertrain, but it's a proven mill in a great truck.
It's a truck not a dragster.
I know I'm biased as I own 4 fords and drive another for work.
And just where are you wanting to do this "beating" ?
On the street is not the place.
Yeah, I was just curious is all. I currently drive an 05 dodge 4x4 with a hemi and I love it...
Yesterday I test drove a F150 limited (i think it was an 08 but im not sure?) and I really liked it. I've never really been much of a ford guy, but damn the interior of that thing was so damn nice and comfortable, and the ride was pretty awesome too...It seemed odd to me that the tranny is only a 4 speed, and when I was accelerating it just didn't seem like the power was there either...But then again, I'm used to my Hemi with a superchips on it. Even with the 35s on her she's still pretty quick.
I was just wondering if I had similar mods on the ford, would I even notice that big of a difference?
I've always heard that even though my dodge seems to be faster than the chevys and fords ive lined up against, that if you put the same amount of money into each of the other 2, they will end up beating out the dodge in the end, so I wanted to get some opinions and thoughts from you guys.
I'm sorry, but someone has to say it...You're buying the truck for the wrong reasons if all you want it to do is be faster than the Ram.
But just for your curiousity, buy the F150. Invest in a SCT or Edge tuner, and invest in some custom 91 or higher octane performance tunes. You'll run with the Ram then.
Otherwise, if all you care about is speed and HP, go buy the Ram or a Tundra.

Thanks Chandler,
I couldn't have said it any better. I would have been much more "brusk" in my response --- so I opted out.
On a Friday afternoon...I have to admit that I'm astonished my tone wasn't worse.
Ditto on the . After all, it is Friday afternoon, isn't it. I am at home in the mountains, and still pretty much snowed/iced in.
You know -- If you want a truck, buy a truck. If you want a "pick-up" that goes really fast (with a high center of gravity), buy a dodge. I don't have a problem with the "really fast" part. I just wouldn't do it in a 7,000lb MACHINE.
When I was in my younger years (a long time ago) I would not race anything but a mopar. I still love them today (for that reason) but, based on 53 years of experience - I would not own one. I have seen Chrysler go through some major metamorphosis's. Their trucks today --- If you gave me one --- I would post it on craigslist.
No offense to the Ice. You are always welcome here.
I was just curious is all. I know I drive a truck and I'm not going to really be out there in a race machine lol, I just felt like the power wasn't there when I test drove that F150. I put the pedal to the floor just to get a feel for it, you know?, and it just seemed to be lacking. But then again, I am used to my hemi and I have a superchips on it, so it's not really a good comparison you know what I'm saying? So I wanted to ask. And I'm not just talking about racing here either, I was thinking of hauling stuff too, but I can't test drive it and ask them to hook up a trailer lol, so I wanted to see what you guys here had to say before I jumped to conclusions.
I also found it kind of odd that the transmission is only a 4 speed. Does that actually help when towing/hauling and that's the reason for that or what?
Like I said, it was a really nice truck and it really changed my mind about fords, I just wanted to get some insight before I more seriously followed through on this, so I joined up over here.
I have always liked the look of the Ram, and even contemplated getting one. But the few people I know that have them, they just dont hold up. Loose and broken interior, horrible to tow with (probably a gearing problem more than anything, even on the big engine 5.9L?)
I do like the new Chevy's roommate bought an 09 and it was super nice, had the small engine but it had some *****.
I really liked the ford's interior. Dodge just doesn't do the interior like ford at all.
As for towing, I've never had a problem with my dodge, but I have the towing package, so it came with the 3.92 gears. When I towed with my previous ones with the 3.5s it was a noticeable difference, but those were also only the 4.7s so it's like comparing apples to oranges lol =\
i looked at both when i got my 07 and the interior was the + for me and i would get s**t all day from friends if my truck had a ram or god for bid a bow tie on it. the ram is faster stock but not as nice and if you want to go fast get a roush charger kit for the 5.4 and destroy most hemi's and look better doing it. i dont know 1/4 mile times for the hemi but my 07 with the mods in my sig runs a 15.50 @ 83ish mph (i may be off on the mph by 1 or 2)
I messed up when I traded my 04 F150 for a new 07 Ram. At 105k the list of things I was going to have to tackle on the Ram out weighed the negative equity by far. Bought an 07 F150 with 40k on it and I know I made the right choice. From day one, the Ram wasn't half the truck the F150 is. The Fords are just finished better, higher quality for sure. My 96 F150 made it 215k before I got stupid and sold it. I've learned my lesson now.
