i have heard from a few people that the ford beds are hard to get off b.c. they have the rounded heads on them, i need to take my bed off this weekend and i don't want to have any mishaps, so, does anyone know any tricks to getting it off without cutting the bolts off,
Wear safety glasses for sure! I pulled the bed off my 85 f-150 to make dump truck some years ago the worst part of the job was to get the bed off . My bolts were rusted to sh@t and had to soak with WD-40 . I did it by myself took my engine lift and chained the four corners together jacked up the bed and drove the truck out . Don't forget to unhook the brake lights. the bolts have a tendicie to strip out at the top. If you have help doing it and they strip have someone use vise grips on the top.. Other option is mig weld the bolts to the bed or drill out, either way no its fun. Good luck
I replaced my bed a couple of years ago & had to cut the bolts, so my advice isn't for getting the bed off, but putting it back on. Some trucks have torx drive heads rather than just the plain rounded carriage bolts. I would suggest using these when you put the bed back on to avoid the same problem should you ever have to remove the bed again. I don't know if they are available from Ford, but you should be able to find them somewhere. This could possibly avoid a headache down the road.
