I have a 2009 f250 6.4 and i bought it used it had 4,000 miles on it. I am learning a lot on here as this is my first diesel. This is a great site and resource and I appreciate all the help I have gotten. I currently have 9500 miles on her.
I have a question on the water drain valve on the rail filter. I never get anything out when I move the lever up. Should fuel come out if there is no water present? I have never received the message of water in fuel or whatever it says. Thanks in advance for the info!!

Reason: forgot info
you should get fuel/ water out of it when you move the lever...maybe you have water in there and its possibly frozen? seeing as how you are close to the 10 k mark I would change the filters and see what you got, down fall is your probably gonna take a bath...or you could take it to the dealer and tell them the issue...maybe the valve is F'd?
The truck is garaged and the temp in the garage is above freezing. Fuel should come out if no water is present? Thanks for any thoughts in advance. I tried a search and came up empty.

Open vaulve and push a small rod up into hole. trash in tube!
Thanks for the answers everyone I GREATLY appreciate it!!! I am so nervous with being a diesel newbie and all of the threads I have read I do not want to screw anything up or take a chance on not doing something I should have done! I hate being a virgin to diesel lol.
Give me a V8 V6 or 4 banger and I can tear it down and put it back together with my eyes closed. A diesel is a whole different beast especially with all this EPA crap!!

Since you are in a garage I assume the truck is level, if front is higher drain won't work. I na addition to the coat hanger trick open the fuel cap. One or the other or both should work.
Thanks again for all the info!! We just received 6 inches of snow and we had a high of 16 today with the low -3. I will wait until it warms a little then try the gas cap and the cleanout advise and will let everyone know what happens.
The truck like I said had only 4000 miles on it and the underside of the truck was clean as could be so I am wondering how it would have gotten clogged. I hope that is all it is that it is clogged. The truck was level in garage when I tried it. Thanks again!!
is it just me or did ford make this a major bitch to get to?!? i didn't like having one of my dodge buddies laugh at me when i had to crawl under the damn truck when his is under the hood
It is a bitch. Most of the time in other applications it is closer to the motor. If someone were really into mods I bet you could move it. Trouble is there is no room under the hood either.
Mine was clogged until I replaced the filter. When you do replace the filter, be sure to clean out the inside of that unit really well. Mine was filled with what looked like granular rock salt, which I assumed was impurities from fuel. Who knows?
