Tip: an easy hp improvement.

I would like this to be added to the tips, tricks sticky.

For pre EFI 300 engines:

About the easiest way to get a few more hp out of one of these engines is to replace your oem rocker arms with the those from a Chevy inline six. They cost about $50 from any auto parts store, and are a bolt in change.

What is the difference, you ask: They are 1.73 ratio, as opposed you to your 1.6, and will give your valves a bit more lift, thereby allowing more fuel/air mix into your engine, giving a bit more hp. Simply ask for a set of rockers from a 75 C-10 with a 250 (4.1) inline six.

You might see 5-10%, depending.

I did that, and you can actually feel the difference, mostly in the mid range. I thought they were a 1.75, and stock 300 was a 1.63.
Great bang for the buck, and good first performance mod.

Don't forget to have them change their fiber timing gears if they have them.

I already have a mild RV type cam in my 84 with a 300, I wonder if I could get away with this mod as well.

I have intsalled it on my 90 cyl head and it all works just fine. Crane part number 36655-16 will give you 3/8 studs and guideplate for 5/16 pushrods. If you go this route hardened pushrods are not required becuse the kit has nylon inserts in the guidplates. I had to mix a couple of kits on mine cause I needed 7/16 studs for BBC rockers I already had. It is best for long life of the nylon inserts if you polish the pushrods to make sure there are no burrs on them. This is easy to do in a drill.
This conversion kit will also make your valvtrain adjustable.

Sealed Power # R832
They fit 194/230/250/292 from 63-84. I was a parts guy for a few years.

It was never installed on a Chevy, nor ever in a GM facility. If you buy it from a parts store, you are getting it from the same place a Ford or Dodge one came from. I call it safe from chevy-ism.

What rear end do you have? If it's a Dana, Chevy used them too!! All vehicles are a compilation of parts from various vendors.

BTW, my truck has Caddy rear calipers on Chevy rotors, a Chevy master cylinder, chevy hydrobooster, saginaw p/s pump, a dana rear, chevy valves, Crane bbc rockers, Isky Cam, Vendor gas tank, Summit radiator, aftermarket fuel pump and fan and valve cover, edelbrock carb .... etc, and it drives great. I use the best part available.

OMG, I bet the tires you are driving on also fit a Chevy.
