I drove about 8 miles to my cousions shop w/ no DP or EBPV housing. It was incredibly uh "whistlely." I was easy on the throttle and stopped to make sure that nothing was going to catch on fire about every mile.
any body figure out if hood stacks are legal? or why not?

Pretty sure there not legal... not for on road use anyways
the only reason i could see is that it impares visibility. but, all states are differnt on where exhaust exits. in texas and louisiana, ive been tested in both, claim that a turbo is considered a muffler, and they dont look any farther than that. alot of laws around here are up to the cop. if i kenw for sure... i would have (3) 4" miters, inline coming out of my hood
These trucks sound great like that. Just a tad illegal though. I drove mine for over a week one time like that with no hood.
It gets some strange looks.
I drove by a cop one time and if you let out of it and barely use the throttle you can sneak by them without them even noticing at all.
our trucks are not too loud with straight exhaust, ricers running around with those oversize, stupid looking, ground dragging, nothing to back it up, noise mufflers are way louder. iam just woundering where we can find our local laws saying if a hood stack is legal or not. it seems like something that is left up to the cop (who is not expected to know all the laws, yet we are). i searched the web for hours without finding anything. nothing for hood mounted visibility or exhaust exit locations. i see "hot rods" on cruise night running around with hood scoops up to the roof hiding 6-71 blowers, and nobody gives them trouble. so... how do we really know if it is illegal?
If you have a safety inspection, it should be listed in the rules there.
Granted it is not that many, but the states I know about do specify "behind any opening into the passenger compartment".
Think about a short hood stack, fumes roll down the windshield and into the cowl intake for the heater air.
Then the fumes blow in your face while driving.
getting anybody around here to look something up is like pulling teeth, this state has the lazyest civil servents anywhere in the country, especially when it involves a motor vechical. they go out the way to make your life more difficult. as far as inspection stations... it could pass or not, depending on who does the inspection. ive had a light meter put on the tint and my headlight height measured. other times, ive had inspectors say " well you drove it here, it must be safe". but none of that means i will or will not get a ticket. as far as fumes go, i agree. but if i wanna change out to a hood stack for a friday nite GTG, who knows if it is legal or not?
