Well it's been a while, I have 160k miles on truck. All fluids and filters changed regularly as specified. Recently in the last 5k miles I noticed the idle had changed on the truck. It's idling where it should be but what I mean is the engine doesn't sound smooth, best I can describe it is you know when you turn your wheel hard over to the stop and the engine kinda strains cause of the PS pump. This is what it sound and feels like all the time, in neutral and in gear. Also on cold morining (30 - 50 deg) when it is started it runs rough and sputters when accelerating, this clears up as soon as the engine warms up, but you can almost hear a miss in the exhaust sound or kinda a chop.
Is this a sign that the injectors are dirty or need replacing? Or can they effectively be cleaned while in the engine??
Any ideas, suggestion or related experience would be greatly appreciated.
Still using Rotella 15w 40, we have some days here that get colder than 30 deg but most of the time it is in the 50 to 60 deg in the winter here. I've wanted to run syn oil but I drive so much a month and change the oil every 5 to 7k it would kill me in cost for syn. I basically get an oil change every month. I am however running Wynn's syn in the tranny. I haven't had a flash in some time, was probably 3 years ago when the truck only had 60k miles on it. I do have an SCT I mainly only run my aggressive tow program when I'm towing boats other than that I run stock. Occationally if I have no load and am on the interstate I'll run a race tune to increase my mpg.
don't waste time on trying the same things I did. I switched to syn. 5/40 needed change but not a fix. I use ford diesel treatment and power kleen still didn't fix but made it run better sometimes. Then I installed block heater cord, which made it alot better in mornings. But still no fix. Now its fixed put it on computer to see that the #4 n #5 were falling off at different times and sometime they both fell off. Now truck is great!
To the OP , the trany fuid you are running may not be the best choice. You are only supposed to use MERCON SP in the 5 speed auto JMO
My local dealer is the one that put the Wynn's in at that last tranny flush, they have been using it alot in their tranny services. We switched because it is supposed to have better heat distribution properties. With the high miles and the amount of heavy towing I do we thought it would be best. Supposively it is approved and exceeds SP specs. Why or what have you heard about it?
Every body on this site preaches mercon sp or lv only and say anything else will miss it up. just what i have heard.
I'm coming up on 20k miles on it interested to see if it is burnt or not. I haven't had any shift issues as of yet, no slipping and temps have been in the 150 to 180 range.
I look at it this way, I have 160+k miles on that tranny without any problems so far and it has hauled more boat and car than my F350 ever did. One of the Tranny engineers on here said I should expect to replace the tranny around 250k which will probably be this time next year possible sooner. In that case Suncoast is 15 min from me and I will just swap it out. It would be nice to have other options for fluid maybe the Wynn's will work maybe not. I guess I will see.
just my two cents here. find someone that does injector flushing. BG's injector flush is amazing!!!!! they disconnect the fuel line and hook the machine up to the truck. then they turn the truck on and set the rpm's to like 1700 or something like that. the truck runs completely off of the cleaner. you can smell the cleaner coming outta the exhaust and it will make your eyes water. my mpg's improved by 2 and truck had much more power. they recommend doing it every 25000 miles and its fairly cheap. better than any fuel additive out there!! but remember this only cleans the fuel side of the injectors not the oil side but i can promise 100% that you will see a difference in power and mpg's!!!
A friend of mine is the old BG rep.here he now.is.the Wynn's dealer. I have talked to him about this.and may.try it. Thanks. For.your. opinion.
not a prob. also try the rev-x for the top side of the injector. have not tried it in mine but from what i read on this site it really seems to help. have hot shot in my truck right now and it isnt doing anything. but yea the injector flush is almost a must for these injectors to run right
