needed: proper engine
WE have a 1977 1 ton duallie truck used to deliver water. When loaded with its 725 gallon load it is right at its max limit of 10,000 gvw. The 360 2bbl. engine is about shot. This truck delivers water to those of us who are out of water.
I need some information as to the replacement engines available for this type of truck. I presume the standard blocks available from the old days of 360- to 427 would fit in this old truck. I was told yesterday that the newer series of Ford truck engines will also fit this old truck if the newer bell housing is used to fit our old standard 4 speed transmission.
We are in a fiscally desperate situation and must locate an engine that will fit into this old rig because our water needs are acute. What engine do you suggest would fit best and not require some work with regard to modifcations to starter, exhaust manifolds etc? I know practically any Ford truck engine would be more powerful than our present one. We don't need a hot rod, we need relaible power.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give us in this matter.
Gene S.
