I am missing the headliner in my 79 supercab, and I have a sheet of the material, but it's not quite large enough. What would be a good alternative to the fiberboard that it came with? Because those sag over time.
I replaced one in my 77 single cab years ago and used 1/4" plywood then upholstered it. It was a bit tough to get it put back up but once it was up never had any problems.
I used a sheet of plastic like the stuff they would use for a sign I guess. It has the profile thickness like cardboard. We have a place called industrial plastic and paints and you can get it in any color,it's easy to work with and looks really nice if you don't kink it.
With the way the stock board is I would say you could replace it with alot of things. Mine was white and I had it sprayed black. Looks like new. Is the supercab one the same material just bigger?
Yeah super cab is bigger. Don't think I would be able to form the plywood to match the curves though. I have a sheet of the stock material, but it is 2 inches short.
Yeah youre probably right abobout forming the plywood. After I posted that I remembered that that truck had a '70's style sunroof in it (what a waste of a cab!!! darned things ALWAYS leaked) With the lower ring of the sunroof I was able to draw it up in place to get the right curvature. I'd think that some masonite type of material would be more flexible. It could either be painted (with the correct prep) or upholstered.
For my crew cab I used masonite (or thats what i call it anyway, not sure if thats what it is) and i didnt cover it with anything. Kinda looks cool and matches the woodgrain pieces on the dash.
