I finished my gauge install about an hour ago and my trans temp and pyro are working just fine, but my boost gauge is only registering 5 pounds, this can't be right, truck also started making a noise when i accelerate and then let off the pedal any ideas?
Stock truck?? Chipped?? If no chip you are close to normal. I just took my chip out to get reburned for the single shots and I tell you this thing is a slug. 8 or 9 pounds boost is all I see.
Just for comparison, i just did my gauges about a month ago, in stock form the boost would not register at idle or when i gave it some juice. I thought my gauge was not working or i did something wrong. But get underway and then the boost is in about the range that you mention, when i hammer it in stock form the most i could get was 15-16lbs. Did my DP Tuner about 2-3 wks ago and in 80e or 120r, boost will register when pressing the go pedal in park to about 3-4 lbs or so and will jump to 26-27 lbs when under load. In both stock and tuned forms i get about 4 lbs boost cruising at 70mph.
I do not register any bost while puttting around town taking it easy or even at highway speeds the boost guage says 0. Likewise at WOT in stock tune it goes up to 16-17 psi. With my DP tuner on any tune 60e 80e 120hp 140hp it still only reads 16-17psi. i i break torque it it will jump up to 15 before the tires spin
Sounds like you could have a boost leak if it's making a new sound. See if the tube you connected to the boost gauge hit a hot spot or something.
Edit: any additional black smoke out the tailpipe?
The noise happens when i get it above 2000 rpms and let off, it almost sounds like a power steering whine but it only happens for a second,

Haven't taken it out yet, just revved it a little in the drive way, i'm goin to take it out tonight and ill post what the boost gets up to and the boost tube comes off the MAP sensor line and goes straight up from there to the cowl panel lip and is zip-tied over to the fire wall
Ahh, ok. Idling in your drive your not going to see much if any boost, the motor has to be under load. I thought the same thing when I installed mine.
Ok I'll have to pay attention to it tomorrow on my way to work, but do you have any suggestions on what the noise could be? it doesn't sound like an air leak and isn't coming from the back of the boost gauge?
What kind of intake do you have on your truck?? Did you notice the noise before this boost gauge install?? If your intake boots are all tight and you don't have exsessive smoke like Rich mentioned theres a slight chance it could be the dreaded turbo surge or at WOT your defueling. When mine defueled it made a pisst pist pist at WOT, the truck wouldn't go any faster..
IDK why but the noise i was hearing just went away when i went to get some groceries just now and, just to confirm i was making boost i ran it at WOT off a light and it instantly jumped to 19 pounds so it's working and my EGT's stayed in check the whole time

You should not get surge in the driveway You are right about it defueling though he was close to that point in RPM's
