have a 99 powerstroke diesel, was mixing oil and antifreeze. ford dealer says bad oil cooler, replaced and motor still did the same thing. Took it to a mechanic and had the head gaskets replaced, the mechanic suggested that I re-do the heads with new injector cups and have them inspected etc. Had it done. got it out of shop after two months and it started to use antifreeze, not leak bt use.
Three months later finally got the mechainc to re-look at it, he used dye and pressure tested it. holds pressure, cannot see leaking. So after about 2500 bucks and a bunch of time the truck runs worse than before. I am thinking of replacing motor and junking the old one as a lost cause since no one can figure it out. Anybody have this problem?? also it did not use antifreeze before, I think that when they re-did the heads they screwed it up and thats what is causing it.
Exactly how much coolant are you using and how are you sure it's not leaking? Sometimes when a water pump starts to go, it will leak a little when hot and running, but it won't drip or leave a stain on the drive.
What do you mean about it running worse than before? How does it run now? Are you getting a rough idle? Smoke? What are your symptoms besides losing coolant?
Welcome to FTE. I'd suggest you find someone more competent to poke around under your hood or start doing this stuff yourself.
had the same problem with mine but i bought the truck knowing the motor was bad. Put everything back togather and it was eating coolant. It didnt show anywhere untill about a week after i was driving it i checked the oil and caught it just in time had heads preassure checked and they checked out good and upon inspection of pass. side head gasket had a very fine crevis in it. It was from when we set the head on by hand. I would check your gaskets again. Another thought would be serch for the thread called NOW WHAT and read it. The plate behind the water pump was pitted i believe if my memory serves me right. Dont give up
