I have a 96 F150 4.9l. the truck has 4 spot lights on the front and they tend to really run the battery gauge down when i have them on for a while. I want to get a bigger alternator but don't want to pay out the a$$ for one. I was wondering if there were any cars( something i could likely find in a junkyard) that would have a larger alternator that would bolt up. i'm not even sure what size it has on it now but it's stock and it has no power options.
Post a pic of your current alternator and how it mounts.
There's plenty of 130A 3G alternators sitting around in junkyards, but without knowing how yours is I can't tell you exactly what model/displacement/year car you need to scavange.
You should be able to do a search for 3g alt upgrades and find some answers. Been some good writeups on this and it comes up a lot. Try fordfuelinjection.com, they have a lot of info that used to be here somewhere.
