I have my tilting front clip almost done, and have a question about the radiator. I have it securely mounted to the frame rails and was wondering if that will be a problem.
It's a 78 f150 460/c6 and is 99% for off road use. My concern is the twisting of the frame rails in front of the foreward-most cross member. Since the engine is mounted to the frame right there, I'm guessing there's not much flex. But I'd hate to get on the trails and have it twist enough to crack the radiator.
Vibration is also a concern. My guess is that the stock rubber body mounts aren't doing a whole lot to absorb vibration, so I might be ok. Again, I'd hate to find out I'm wrong out in the middle of nowhere.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what, if anything, I should do differently?
Hiya Kevin K. youre on the right track...I've been running the radiator mounted to the frame with 1-1/4 inch square tubing for years on a 2 wheel drive and my big black truck (4X4) and never a moments trouble. By the way youre gonna love the tilt, got it done to both mine and wouldnt trade it for the world. Later Whit
You could also use Ch*by style radiator mounts. They are easy to find at the scrapyard. The Ch*by mounts have a rubber insert that is easy to get at the parts store also. You know how you can get anything for those
