this may be out there a ways?but was thinking E4OD's are E4OD's i've got a 92 F250 IDI 4X4 E4OD tranny is a little sick not sure whats wrong.it will move, shift but slip's (clutches ? ) and locks down tight when in R,D,1,2 enough to stall the motor at idle or just starting to move.and when it locks up there ain't no stopping, accept to put it in P or N.I also have a 97 F350 460 4X4 E40D.all is well with it accept for it's a gasser tranny.then a thought happend why not take the guts out of the gasser and put in the diesel with a new TC and away we go.the cab and front clip off the 97 is going on the 92 any way.or i'm i way off base with this thought ?the 97 has 4:10's the 92 has 3:55's the 92 will be the grocery getter/moma's truck/back up work truck.
I'm a little tired, so i'm gonna guess you want to take the guts out of one E4OD and put it into another?
The guy that built mine said there are 3 versions, and my own research has shown that it's a very complicated transmission. With that in mind, i wouldn't try it myself. You could call a transmission shop and get a quote on it, but it won't be cheap ($1700 to r&r mine). There are also several upgrades after the 94 year, so that would work in your favor... Should just need new seals, and labor... so it may not be too bad, just need someone that knows their way around it...
