the past few days ive noticed a small puddle about 6" square under my truck when i walk out to it after work. i know it needs an oil pan gasket and when it warms up i plan on pulling the engine to regasket it.
so tonight i crawled up under the truck with a light and saw green on the pass side front oil pan bolts just a few droplets and the same on the bottom of the fuel pump.
checked my oil, no coolant there, checked my radiator it appears full so it cant be a big leak.
fired the truck up and crawled around looking couldnt see anything leaking other then a drop or two of oil from the pan gasket around the same spot. the water pump is dry and so is everything above the oil pan.
the radiator wasnt leaking i couldnt find any hoses bad.
this morning i checked my rad cap, it holds pressure over night. heck its not my DD so it sometimes sits for 4 or 5 days without being used and i first drove it yesturday because it was raining and just cleaned up my other truck and when i checked the radiator it still had pressure on it.
what gives?
its not running hot or anything either. its running great actually. i checked all the freeze plugs and block heater was dry. its supposed to snow here tmrw so i wanted to drive it to work but im kind of concerned that i cant find it to see what may get worse or if its ok.
Check the upper hose clamp and the thermostat housing. Or the water pump ..ect...
Feel with your hand until you find the wet area. It may be leaking high on the engine and running down components. You just have to look. No real cut and dry answer.
Check around the weep hole under the water pump shaft, behind the pulley.....

fan circulation and air would force it to go to the right side of the engine.
i have a wildly intermittent leak from the water pump. it hasnt leaked in a long while though so im not going to bother with it. intermittent leak from the radiator inlet. not at all when driving and sometimes i go for weeks without a drop hitting the ground. like you ,it seems sort of centered around temperature. for the ounce or so of fluid i lose each month i cant be bothered about it.
My vote is for the water pump weep hole also.
Mine let go last week, and dripped at a steady rate. Fast enough that I topped off with 50/50 for a couple days cause I lost about 1/4 of the top radiator tank over night.
The engine had just a little antifreeze on it, and I reall couldn't even see anywhere coolant could be coming from...
After I pulled the water pump I was able to see the weep hole was wet and that's where the leak was from.
I'm thinking you'll have a similar issue, because I know I couldn't find my leak just as you're having trouble finding yours.
Yeah I believe you are right. Well atleast I'll be pulling the motor. I'm putting some sort of turbo on it I've made up my mind. Painting the truck and putting new wheels and tires on it. It'll be a new truck again so might aswell replace the water pump. I want to make this truck my DD so I'll take no chances.
