99 powerstroke, had heads re-done, new head gaskets, injector cups etc. I got the truck back after two months with the mechanic, started using antifreeze, alittle at first now it uses a gallon just to drive it 10 miles. It does not leak it out anywere that I can see. took it back to mechanic after three months cause he wouldnt look at it. He finially did and pressure tested it, put dye in it to see if he could find the leak, no luck. he cannot find leak. I have replaced the oil cooler also. So in short I have put about 2500 into a truck that is worse off than when I first took it in. originally took in cause oil antifreeze was mixing. It does not mix anymore but just uses a ton of antifreeze when driving it. So I am out of idea's, mechanic wont fix cause he does not know what it is. options left is to sell as junk or put new or used motor in which will cost 2500 or more just for the motor. Anyone have any ideas? also it will on occasion blow white smoke out if I get on it, alot of white smoke but only when I floor it and it also has about half the power it use too.
If I were you, I would first pull spark plugs. If coolant leaks to cylinder, the spark plug from the cylinder will look different from the rest. You don't need to be a mechanic to tell the difference. If you don't want to do it yourself, take it to a different shop. White smoke and sweet smell are good indicators of "burning coolant."
i think you have a diesel and your in the gas motor posts.... Burning antifreeze normally means a cracked head or head gaskets. Since he just did the head gasket, i would assume you have a crack in the head like the combusion chamber to the water jacket. You can only get the head magnifluxed or something like that to tell. I would guess he missed that. Another option is a cracked liner or block, but it has to be into the combustion chamber to get rid of the antifreeze without seeing a leak. You could use bars leak copper block sealer to slow it down. I would be interested to seeif or how long that lasts... Otherwise, your in for some big money... Add this stuff right to the antifreeze and see what happens.
